All human language began in Africa. Today it has four main language families: Khoisan (Click), Niger-Congo (largest), Afro-Asiatic and Nilo-Saharan (hardest). Other than a few Semitic languages, like Arabic and Hebrew, most of us have little familiarity with the languages of Africa. Professor John McWhorter's latest course: Language Families of the World. It will introduce you to the four fascinating language families of Africa with an estimated 2,000 separate languages. No more than two lectures each week from The Great Courses will be viewed each week. The lectures in this course can also be viewed on televisions with streaming capabilities, tablets, and computers  on The Great Courses Plus subscription service.
